Gunners move to stop Spurs for Victor Osimhen
Arsenal are reportedly set to battle it
out with bitter rivals Tottenham Hotspur for the services of Chile 2015
FIFA Under-17 World Cup Golden Boot winner Victor Osimhen.
Osimhen guided Nigeria to their fifth
Under-17 World Cup title after beating Mali 2-0 on November 8 in Estadio
Sausalito in Vina Del Mar, Chile’s fourth largest city. He scored 10
goals in the tournament to emerge as Chile 2015 highest goal scorer,
making him one of the hottest young properties in world football.
The 16-year-old was linked with a move
to German Bundesliga outfit Wolfsburg last week. But reports on Sunday
claimed Spurs, who went cold after jumping to the front of the queue in
the race to
sign to sign the player after his fantastic performance in
Chile, have resurrected their interest in the Golden Eaglets striker.
However, the Gunners, who are their
North London eternal rivals, are said to be preparing to make a bid to
steal Osimhen from under their nose.
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, who has a
reputation for turning rough diamonds into polished gems, is said to
rate the young player so highly – and he is planning to sign the
Lagos-born star.
The teenager’s agent Gaffar Liameed, who
confirmed Spurs’ interest in Osimhen, says the forward is interested in
joining Arsenal.
“We had many offers for Victor, but narrowed it to Wolfsburg and Arsenal,” The Sun quoted Liameed as saying on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Super Eagles striker Odion
Ighalo scored a brace to help Watford secure their fourth Premier League
win on the bounce following their 3-0 hammering of Liverpool at
Vicarage Road on Sunday.
Nathan Ake put the Hornets ahead inside two minutes before Ighalo scored the first of two goals 12 minutes later.
The former Spain-based attacker secured
the three points for Watford in the 85th minute and ensured the side are
one point off a top-four position at Christmas. Ighalo has scored 10
league goals.
Also, Bartholomew Ogbeche scored twice
for SC Cambuur in their 4-1 victory over Excelsior in their Dutch
Eredivisie at Stadion Woudestein on Sunday.
The player, who represented Nigeria at
the Korea/Japan 2002 World Cup, rifled home in the 34th minute to open
the scoring for his side.
Ogbeche grabbed his brace on 71 minutes to score his ninth goal this season.
