Victor Anichebe Joins Chinese Club

Another Nigerian player, Victor Anichebe, has completed a move to the lucrative Chinese League.

The 29-year-old, who played last for Sunderland but got relegated from the Premier League, has joined second-tier club Beijing Enterprises.

Beijing Enterprises interestingly was the club the late Ivorian player, Cheick Tiote, played for before his demise.

“We are delighted with the signing of Victor, who played in the Premier League,” said his new head
coach Gao Hongbo. “It’s a positive development for our whole club.

“Victor hasn’t trained on the pitch since the Premier League season ended, so it may take a while for him to integrate into our team. We have to be patient with him.”

The manager who signed Anichebe for Sunderland, David Moyes, also worked with him at Everton, where the Nigerian international started his career.

Beijing Enterprises are 11th in China’s 16-team League One.

A couple of Nigerian players are now plying their trade in China including Super Eagles captain, John Obi Mikel, Odion Ighalo, (who is Nigeria’s highest paid player), Obafemi Martins and Brown Ideye among others.
