Nigeria's North-East Liberated From Boko Haram, NEMA Boss Says
Speaking at the award ceremony organized by the Northern Youth Council and held at the Kunfukun Hotel in Kaduna on Friday, Sidi thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for his commitment in making sure Boko Haram is the thing of the past.
Sidi dedicated the Ambassador of Hope award he received from the youth council to the NEMA staff and those displaced by the insurgency.
He also announced a change in the direction of NEMA activities: the agency would soon get over
dealing with the emergency issues, and is heading towards rehabilitation of the IDPs instead.
“The government is working with various international agencies to make sure those at the IDPs camps are fully rehabilitated,” Sidi said.
Isah Abubakar, the president of the Northern Youth Council, hailed Sidi for making NEMA work.
Speaking on the strategy to defeat Boko Haram, President Muhammadu Buhari said yesterday: “This government is determined to make sure that we persuade them [Boko Haram] if they can be persuaded, we will use government institutions to persuade them to allow peace to reign”.
Also on Friday, high-ranking military officials held Christmas lunch in Damaturu together with the troops fighting the insurgency in order to elevate the spirits and the morale within the army.
